We really are experts in the work we carry out, so you know you can come to us with any problems you may be facing.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound, also called sonography, uses sound waves to develop ultrasound images of what’s going on inside the body. An instrument called a transducer emits high-frequency sound, inaudible to human ears, and then records the echoes as the sound waves bounce back to determine the size, shape, and consistency of soft tissues and organs. Ultrasound imaging has many uses in medicine, from confirming and dating a pregnancy to diagnosing certain conditions and guiding doctors through precise medical procedures.
Benefits of Ultrasound?
Ultrasound images have been proven to be an excellent method of guiding minimally invasive procedures and as a very useful diagnostic instrument in Obstetrics. The images are used to examine the body in order to detect problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissue, often demonstrating movement, function and anatomy. Since the images are captured in real time, they demonstrate movement of internal tissues and organs, and allow physicians to observe the patient’s blood flow and heart valve functions.
Are there any risks?
Ultrasound is used routinely in clinical practices and considered harmless by the medical profession, and for this reason risks are not discussed. The procedure is also painless, non-invasive and does not require needles, injections, or incisions. Patients aren’t exposed to ionizing radiation, making the procedure safer than X-rays and CT scans. In fact, there are no known harmful effects when used and may be repeated as often as necessary.
